Young team gains experience
In head coach, Mike Kozeal’s time at Sargent and Twin Loup there hasn’t been many times where the Wolves football program has been down. This season was one of those years as the team battled through inexperience and of course the COVID 19 pandemic.
Despite finding themselves on the losing end in most games, this year’s squad continued to fight and put their best foot forward throughout. Their handwork paid off in the end, as the team finished with a come from behind victory against South Loup on the road.
“The kids did a lot of things right this year,” Kozeal said. “They kept showing up to practice each day and working hard. We also didn’t have any problems with them off the field. The only thing was we just hadn’t gotten a win yet. I was really hoping they would get rewarded for their handwork and dedication in the last game and they did.”
This year’s team only had five seniors. They were Shawn Quandt, Dean Schroder, Quade Young, Damian Hill, and Weston Reineke.
They had to lead by example for a team that was primarily made up of kids who were getting their first taste of varsity playing experience in 2020. Kozeal stated that they did a good job of helping their younger teammates come along throughout the year.
When asked about his favorite part of this group, Kozeal stated that it was there never quit attitude. They could have given up on the year when things weren’t going their way but they didn’t and in the end, it paid off for them in a big way.
With more experience next season Twin Loup looks to be a much more competitive squad as a whole.
