Children’s Christmas Fund prepares delivery amid COVID

- BY DEB MCCASLIN

With COVID ever lingering, the Children’s Christmas Fund Board has mixed things up for delivery this year.

IMPORTANT INFO: Recipient families and those picking up for others as in the past are asked to come to the Custer County Fairgrounds starting at 9 a.m. Saturday Dec. 19. Please follow the traffic directions and plan to stay in your car. A delivery system will be set up to bring the “food sacks” and gifts directly to you.

As many of our volunteers are senior citizens, only Children’s Fund volunteers will be allowed in the 4-H building. Masks are requested.

Baskets “sacks” are pre-prepared for each family with the makings of a holiday dinner, including a little extra for the pantry and gifts for each child under the age of 18.

Gifts to senior citizens will also be distributed Saturday but delivery has been pre-arranged.

“I am so pleased with the number of children and families we were able to assist,” CCF Board member Carolyn Mohler said. “It’s a real team effort. It wouldn’t happen without the volunteers. Thank you.”

One hundred percent of the moneys donated to the Children’s Christmas Fund go to help those less fortunate. There are no overhead costs, no salaries to pay. Everyone working for and with the Children’s Christmas Fund serves as a volunteer. The fund is there to help families in need, not just at Christmas, but throughout the year as needs occurred.

Names of those donating to the Children’s Christmas Fund will be recognized in the Custer County Chief just after the first of the year and it is never too late to donate. Checks should be made out to the Custer County Foundation, ear-marked for the Children’s Christmas Fund, and either mailed to the Children’s Christmas Fund at PO Box 24, Broken Bow, NE 68822, or dropped directly off at the Custer County Foundation or the Custer County Chief. Please remember to annotate how you would like the recognition to read and if the donation is in someone’s memory.

Thanks everyone for thinking of others during this holiday season!
