ORD- The Class B No. 8 Broken Bow wrestling team is peaking at the right time, as they secured their second straight tournament win at the Ord Invite on Jan. 29. The Indians finished with three champions at the tournament and ended the day with 262 points.

Other area teams at the meet were Arcadia-Loup City, Ansley-Litchfield, and Sandhills-Thedford. The Rebels were sixth with 97 points, the Spartans finished seventh with 93 points, and the Knights were 15th with 40 points.

According to Broken Bow Coach Ed Schaaf this is what the team expected to get. They talked about this meet being a two-team race between themselves and Class C No. 4 Logan

View.

In the end, it was the Indians who prevailed over the Raiders by 43.5 points on the day.

Taking home first place medals for Broken was Cyrus Wells at 126 pounds, Lathan Duda at 195 pounds, and Sawyer Bumgarner at 285 pounds.

In his first two matches on the day, Cyrus Wells pinned Brett Hervert of Ravenna in 0:44 and then Caden Meinke of Battle Creek in 0:57. In the semifinal he won by major decision 22-10 over Kaden Gregory of Logan View to reach the finals.

Despite having a 3014 record, Boston Reeves of Battle Creek was no match for Cyrus Wells. He lasted over a minute but still ended up getting pinned in 1:34.

At 195, Duda continued his dominant senior campaign and improved his record to 42-0.

He defeated Kaden Stunkel of AnsleyLitchfield in 0:34 and Ashton Hawkins of Axtell in 0:44. In the semifinal he got Alex Gideon of Burwell and pinned him in 5:33.

His finals matchup was Logan Booth of Logan View who had a 41-1 record going into the matchup. Booth went the full match with Duda but still ended up losing a 10-4 decision.

Bumgarner started his day off at 285 pounds by earning a quick 0:13 pin over Riggin Ludeke of Loomis-Bertrand. He then knocked off Liam Heil of Arcadia-Loup City with a pin in 1:51 to earn a matchup with his teammate Tyler Thomas.

The two went back and forth, with Bumgarner escaping with a 3-2

decision to reach the finals.

He wrestled Dahlas Zlomke of Battle Creek for first and similar to his previous bout it was anything but easy. It took a tiebreaker, but Bumgarner once again earned a narrow 3-2 decision to win gold.

Other medalists for Broken Bow were Chauncey Watson (2nd 106), Schylar Campbell (2nd 132), Connor Wells (2nd 145), Jack Myers (2nd 152), Wilson Cucul Tzin (3rd 113), Amarion McFarland (3rd 120), Max Denson (3rd 170), Keifer Anderson (3rd 220), and Tyler Thomas (5th 285).

Arcadia-Loup City had one champion at the tournament in Tryon Calleroz.

With the win the Rebels 152 pounder pushed his record to 31-1.

After receiving a bye, he defeated Baylor Kaup of Logan View with a pin in 2:52 in the quarterfinals and Joseph French of Axtell with a pin in 0:48 in the semifinals.

He met up with Myers of Broken Bow in the finals and made quick work of him pinning him in 1:13.

Also finishing with medals for A-LC were Chase Steib (3rd at 160 pounds), Ty Greenland (4th at 120 pounds), Ethan Krycki (6th at 170 pounds), and Logan Gregory (6th at 138 pounds).

Ansley-Litchfield did not have anybody finish in first at the Ord Invite but had a handful of wrestlers who placed high.

Spartans Coach Mitchell Sloggett stated that it was a good meet for his wrestlers. They earned some key victories over district opponents, and some of the wrestlers were able to avenge losses to opponents they faced earlier in the year. All in all, it was a great week for A-L, who will be busy next week with both the Fort Kearney Conference Meet and their Sub-District Meet.

The best finish for the Spartans on the day came at 170 pounds with Hunter Arehart who finished in second place.

He got to the finals by first beating Ayden Steffens

of Maxwell with a pin in 0:13 and then Owen Woodward of Ravenna with a 6-2 decision. In the Championship Match, he was pinned by Ryan Gabriel of Ord in 5:06.

Other medalists for A-L included Cooper Slingsby (3rd 182), Kolby Larson (3rd 195), Collin Arehart (4th 160), David Lewis (6th 126), and Owen Hartman (6th 106).

Like the Spartans and Rebels, Sandhills-Thedford only had one wrestler reach the finals. That was Reece Zutavern at 182 pounds.

In his first match, he pinned Stone Swantek of Nebraska Christian in 1:08. He then beat Kaden Power of Broken Bow with a pin in 3:19, and Jace Ostrom of Burwell by sudden victory 5-3.

In the finals, Zutavern suffered his first defeat of the season when he lost a 10-5 decision to Kelen Meyer of Ord.

All four area teams will be competing in Sub Districts this weekend. Broken Bow is at B4-B at Lexington on Feb. 5, A-LC is at C4-A at Mitchell on Feb. 6, Sandhills-Thedford is at D3-B at East Butler on Feb. 6, and Ansley-Litchfield is at D2-B at Doniphan-Trumbull on Feb. 6.
