Broken Bow -On Feb. 12 Emma Schall of Broken Bow signed her letter of intent to play college volleyball at Morningside College next fall. She chose the school for multiple different reasons including the school itself, the volleyball program Morningside has to offer, and she liked the area the college is located in.

Schall is a four-year member of the Broken Bow volleyball team and had her first crack at starting this last season. She improved tremendously over her four years and during the 2020 campaign for the Indians.

She led the team this last fall with 79 blocks which were over 25 more than anybody else on the team. Her 175 kills made her one of three players on this year’s squad to finish in triple digits in terms of kills.

“I definitely didn’t expect to get to this level looking back at my freshman year,” Schall said. “It was a lot of hard work and I’m grateful for the coaches that helped me.”

It seemed as if Schall had a knack for the big stage this past season, recording three kills and five blocks in the team’s District Final win vs Oakland-Craig. In Broken Bow’s most hotly contested game of the year at Kearney Catholic, she also came through, with nine kills and four blocks.

All in all, she played a big role in the Indian’s second run at State. It is an experience she will not forget anytime soon.

In comments following the signing, she stated it was such a fun experience. It is not something she or the team expected starting the year, but she definitely dreamed about it. When the season wore on and they continued to keep winning, that is when she finally realized that this dream could become a reality.

At Morningside, she looks to keep improving and evolving her game, like she has been doing over the last several years. She knows it is going to get tougher at the college level, but she is up for the challenge.

The Broncos of Morningside are an NAIA school that competes in the GPAC Conference. Last season they finished with a record of 10-11.

While at Morningside, Emma plans to pursue a degree in the education field. She is the daughter of Chad and Tammy Schall of Broken Bow.
