Lucy G. Cooley, 79, died Tuesday March 2, 2021 at her home in Garden City, Kan.

She was born January 19, 1942 in Colchester, Vermont, the daughter of Guy Lashua and Lois Spears. Upon her father’s untimely death Lois remarried Stephen B. Collins and Lucy was adopted and raised by him.

Lucy graduated from Walton County Sr. High in Defuniak Springs, Fla. and lived in various places throughout the years. Lucy enjoyed gardening, reading, cooking and scrapbooki­ng. She had a wonderful sense of humor and had the ability to make anyone smile with her bubbly personalit­y.

Her pets were near and dear to her heart and many stray animals found refuge in her care. She is remembered for her caring and compassion­ate nature. Lucy made a point to repay any good deed she received, and then some.

She is survived by her children Donna Jean Johnson of Garden City, Kan., Troy Johnson of Callaway, Lauri Robare Russell of Wichita, Kan., Shannon and Brenda Johnson of DeFuniak Springs, Fla. and Sonja and Chris Unruh of Holcomb, Kan.;14 gandchildr­en; and 26 great-Grandchild­ren.

Lucy was preceded in death by her parents Guy Lashua, Lois Spears and Stephen B. Collins; husband Robert “Bob” Cooley; sister Rena Howell; and step-son Luke Cooley.

Memorials are suggested to the Finney County Humane Society or Heartland Cancer Center in care of Garnand Funeral Home.

Funeral service were Saturday March 6 at the Grace Bible Church in Garden City with Pastor Andrew Zoschke officiatin­g. Visitation was Friday March 5 at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City, Kan.

Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City, Kan. was in charge of arrangemen­ts.
