Lorraine Margaret (nee Searle) Thorn, a long-time resident of Ansley, Neb., passed away Feb. 18, 2021 at the age of 78 at the home of her daughter in Centennial, Colo.

Lorraine was born June 7, 1942 in Nelson, New Zealand to Richard and Ero (nee Bruce) Searle.

In October, 1969 Lorraine married her now ex-husband, Guy L. Thorn in Auckland, New Zealand where she worked as a bank teller. She and her oldest child, Karyn, moved to Guy’s hometown of Beaver City, in December 1969 where she continued working as a bank teller.

Around 1971, they moved to Mason City where she briefly managed the Crow Bar before she began working for

Becton Dickinson (BD) where she retired after 35 years.

Her passions were gardening, playing cards, knitting, crocheting, traveling and flying kites with her grandchild­ren.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents; and brother John Searle.

She is survived by her children Karyn (Frank

Parrish) Thorn of Los Angeles, Calif., Dean (Julie) Mitchell of Auckland, New Zealand, Jon (Jennifer White) Thorn of Ansley, Nicole (Rodney Sr.) Bonton of Centennial, Colo. and Roderick “Bob” (Michelle Morgan) Thorn of Ashburton, New Zealand; sister Patricia Stranger of Bel Air, Md.; 10 grandchild­ren; eight great-grandchild­ren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A private memorial service for the family will be held at a later date. Her wish was to be cremated with half her ashes to be buried in Ansley Cemetery and half to be scattered over her parents’ grave in Nelson, New Zealand.
