Devotion: Freedom in Him

- BY PASTOR DOUG SANER

Cancel culture has surrounded us. We need to beware of not only what we say, but what we do.

Freedom is not free, and we want to proclaim peace in our daily lives but little by little pieces of our freedoms are slipping away. Everywhere you look, social media notwithstanding, cultural norms are being challenged daily. Opinions are proclaimed, and one dares not question what is being said. Conspiracy theories abound and so many voices are being heard in so many ways, which raises the questions, who do you believe, what do you believe, and why?

Fear reigns far and wide as we have dealt with a pandemic, shortages, job loss, sickness and many other situations.

In truth, some parts of the country have not been afflicted as dramatically as other areas, but people are exhausted, tired of the not-normal that we have been enduring for a year. 2020 was spent with unknown and uncertain difficulties that most of us have never seen and people are looking for answers. The Bible gives us answers to all men’s problems, we just have to search them out. The book of Isaiah 55:6 (NKJV) says “Seek the Lord while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near.” Philippians 4:6-8 (NKJV) “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy, meditate on these things.”

These are only two scriptures that we can stand on when we feel the effects of a world different than we are used to. Remember, God loves you and sent His Son to buy your freedom from sin and death. Seek Him while it is yet today. He will set you free.
