Charles and Marilyn Vinnedge
Charles and Marilyn Vinnedge of Oakland City, Ind., entered rest at home surrounded by loving family. Charles Vinnedge passed Sunday Feb. 7, 2021. Marilyn passed Sunday March 7, 2021.
They were great parents, grandparents and great-grandparents who will be missed deeply by their family and friends.
Charles, 87, was born July 16, 1933 in Berwyn, Neb. to Charles W. Vinnedge and Eva L. (Pirnie) Vinnedge.
Marilyn, 85, was born May 31, 1935 in Mullen, Neb. to Clifford and Grace (Kerns) Thompson.
Charles proudly served in the United Sates Army during the Korean War where he earned the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, and National Defense Services Medal. Charles was a member of Oakland City American Legion Post #256.
Charles and Marilyn began their storied life together May 10, 1954 and were married for an incredible 66 years at the time of their passing.
Charles held many positions through his long and eventful life. Most notable among them being an EMT, a mechanic and Head of Maintenance at Old Ben Coal Mine 2 where he subsequently retired from.
Marilyn will be remembered for loving her grandkids, great-grandkids, the Sandhills of Nebraska, quilting, making jellies, auto racing and watching old westerns.
They are survived by their five children Ken (Tamela) Vinnedge of Forreston, Ill., Doug (Debbie) Vinnedge of Oakland City, Ind., Pat (Lisa) Vinnedge of Oakland City, Ind., Sherri (David) James of Clark, Mo. and Jeff (Tammy) Vinnedge of Petersburg, Ind.
Charles is further survived by four siblings Dee McMahon of San Diego, Calif., Evelyn Feeny of Niles, Mich., Tom Vinnedge of Winslow, Ind. and Mike Vinnedge of Florida.
Marilyn is further survived by one sibling Herbert Thompson of Oakland City, Ind.
Together they are survived by 12 grandchildren Chris (Abigail) Vinnedge, Josh (Jenn) Vinnedge, Kyle (Lindsay) Vinnedge, Michael (Holly) James, Sam (Jason) Morgan, Alicia James, Brittany (Dane) Busker, Marcus James, Cory (Cecilia) Vinnedge, Morgan (Hud) Cone, Kelsey (Travis) Ross and Katie (Cameron Willis) Vinnedge; and 27 great-grandchildren.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings Barb, Janet, Gloria, Georgia, John, Dave Patricia, and Dan.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband Charles on Feb. 7; her parents; and brother David.
They were also preceded by two grandchildren Haley Mechele, daughter of Jeff and Tammy Vinnedge; and daughter of Sherri and David James.
A private family visitation was held at Lamb-Basham Memorial Chapel. Graveside services were officiated by Rev Bob Shepherd at Oak Hill Cemetery in Winslow, Ind. on March 16, 2021.
