Anselmo-Merna Girls Basketball A-M’s season ends in District Fianal for 2nd year

-

The Anselmo-Merna girls basketball team had a tremendous 2020-2021 campaign. The Coyotes broke multiple school records and got to the District Final for the second straight season.

“There are a lot of things that stick out to me about this group of young women,” A-M Coach Trent Kirchmann.

“The biggest thing is how hard they worked and how hard they worked together. It showed in the District Final game when they continued to work up until the last horn blew.”

The records that were broken by this year’s team were the single season scoring record, the single season rebounding record, and the single season block record.

“This year the Lady Coyotes also broke three single-season school records,” Kirchmann said. “They broke single-season scoring with 1,206 points which was previously held by the 199394 team which had 1,177 points. They broke the single season rebounding record with 923 which was previously held by the 1993-94 team which had 899. They also broke the single season blocks record with 88 which was previously held by the 2019-20 team which had 83.”

This years team finished with a 17-7 record. They were also third in the MNAC and despite losing in the District Final

to BDS the Coyotes were No. 7 in the final Class D1 girls basketball rankings put out by the Lincoln Journal Star.

The main reason for A-M’s success this year was their three seniors Kaitlyn Jacquot, Claire Cooksley, and Emmallee Bartak. They gave the team leadership both on the court with their play and through motivation off the court as well.

“We are going to miss our three seniors tremendously with the output on the floor and also the leadership they showed throughout the year,” Kirchmann said. “They laid a great foundation for a bunch of returning contributors to carry on next season.”
