Ansley-Litchfield Girls Basketball Sub-District Finals
The Ansley-Litchtfield girls basketball battled through an up and down season in 2020-2021. There were bright spots of play in almost every game for the Spartans, but the issue was just being able to put together a consistent and complete game.
One of the biggest issues this year was the road where A-L had a 1-13 record. At home, they had a winning record at 4-3.
The team started to make big strides at the end of the year by putting together their first multiple-game win streak. It started with the team’s 15-point victory over Arcadia-Loup City in their final home game and carried over into the first round of Sub-Districts where they beat Maxwell by 19 points.
Ultimately the Spartans would come up
short against A-M in the Sub-District Final, but it did not diminish the progress the team had made. A key part of the team’s success was sophomore Kaylee Rohde who led the team in scoring.
“The Ansley Litchfield girls improved throughout the year, and that was one of our main goals,” A-L Coach Travis Olson
said. “We did not end up with the win total that we wanted, but hopefully we laid the groundwork for future teams. We had a couple of young girls make some big strides as the year went on.”
Next season the team will be without Harley Myers, Rebecca Mostek, Taylor Haines, and Sydnee Sweley who were all
seniors this year. Myers and Haines were the team’s main ball handlers throughout the season.
According to Coach Olson despite the team’s struggles the group never got down on themselves. They continued to work as hard as possible which is very admirable.
“Pretty fun group of girls,” Olson said. “We
seemed to have one quarter a game where we fell apart, but the other 3/4 of the game was always a contest. Slow starts or sluggish performance out of the half really cost us a few games. Despite this, they never really got down on themselves and each day was enjoyable.”
