South Loup Girls Basketball Bobcats finish season as District Runner-Up’s

-

For the second straight season, the South Loup girls basketball team came up a game shy of their ultimate goal of making it to state vs Wood River.

It wasn’t an easy draw, to say the least as the Eagles went into the State Tournament as the No. 2 overall seed and ended up with a record of 24-3 on the year. In the final rankings put out by the Omaha World-Herald, they finished with the No. 6 rating in Class C2.

“I thought Wood River did a nice job, defensively, of extending their 1-3-1,” South Loup Coach Abe Hinman said. “It really gave us fits and didn’t allow us to get clean outside looks. In the fourth quarter, we had some shots go in that didn’t early on. I was proud of the girls for their fight throughout the whole game, including that last quarter.”

Despite that the Bobcats had lots to be proud about from this year, finishing with a record of 18-5 overall and as MNAC Conference Runner-Ups. They also won the Brady Holiday Tournament.

South Loup says goodbye to a very talented senior class in Jadeyn Bubak, Laney Badgley, Kacee Dovorak, Landyn Cole, and Bailey Schwarz. Over their four-year high school careers, the group compiled a record of 7717.

The team loses a lot of talent from this years squad, but return some key underclassman like Megan Donegan, Mya Weverka, and Bryn

Schwarz. Donegan led the team in scoring with 12.4 points a game.

There is no doubt this senior group will be hard to replace for the Bobcats, but they definitely have the pieces to be successful again next season.

According to Coach Hinman, it’s the relationships he will remember from this year’s group. They were very easy to work with and they worked very well together.

“This group has been really easy to work with,” Hinman said. “They all have been playing with each other for a long time and are such an easy-going group. Ultimately, it’s the relationships that I will remember. We will miss this senior class!”
