- Finished the season with a record of 8-12.
- Had two big wins over a good Maxwell team, one over Sandhills-Valley, and played a State Tournament team in Mullen close down the stretch this year.
- Graduate Drew Vickers, Alex Shown, and Sam Cool from this year’s team. things difficult for the South Loup boys basketball team throughout the
2020-2021 campaign. This was seen multiple times throughout the year as the Bobcats struggled against teams in their class of D1 and above them in Class C1 and Class C2.
It was a situation where even the upperclassmen were learning to take on a more significant role along with the underclassmen. South Loup was able to work out these issues against some of their opponents,
but it just never fully clicked for them on the year.
The high point for the Bobcats this season was winning the Maxwell Holiday Tournament. They also rebounded from an overtime loss to Anselmo-Merna in the MNAC Tournament, to beat Cody-Kilgore in their consolation game.
Seniors for South Loup include Sam Cool, Alex
Shown, and Drew Vickers. All three players started throughout most of the season and were leaders on the court with their play and off the court with their encouragement of the underclassmen.
The team will have a lot to look forward to in the coming years with underclassmen Trey Connell and Cache Gracey. Both were freshmen on this
year’s team and played significant roles from the guard position.
In what can be deemed as a rebuilding year for South Loup this season, an 8-12 record is not nearly as bad as it looks. With the talent, they have returning and with players coming up it will be interesting to see if the Bobcats improved on that record next season.
