- BY ALEX ELLER Sports/Editorial Writer

ORD - The Broken Bow and Arcadia-Loup City golf teams continued to show improvement in the early part of the season at the Ord Invite on April 8. The Indians finished in fourth place with a score of 360 and the Rebels were seventh with a score of 374 out of 13 teams.

Broken Bow was led by Blake Denson in eighth place shooting an 82. Austin Harvey finished just inside the medals in 15th place with a score of 87.

Nathan Reynolds shot a 48 on the front nine and a 44 on the back nine for a total score of 92. Finishing just under 100 on the day was Zack Gaffney carding a 98.

JR Schaaf had one of his best performances of the season as the fifth golfer for the Indians. He finished the 18 hole course with a score of 105.

All in all, having four golfers shoot under 100, was a first for Broken Bow this year. Head Coach Ed Schaaf hopes to continue to see the positive trend his team is on.

“It’s always nice to see your team improve,” Ed Schaaf said. “Our kids have been working hard at their game and want to score well. Ord is a tough golf course that you really have to think your way around to able to score well. It is a step in the process of our kids improving their golf game. We just keep getting better, so that we may be playing our best golf at the end of the year.”

A-LC’s top performer of the tournament was Hayden Griffith in 13th place. The sophomore finished with a score of 86.

“Hayden played great. I knew he was in good shape after his first nine, and to see him back it up with a better score on the back nine was great,” A-LC Coach Jeff Harrington. “It’s a lot more fun to watch the award presentations when we have someone bringing home a medal. Hope it’s just the first.”

Luke Krolikowski ended up two spots back of a medal in 17th place by carding an 89. Shooting a 98 for the day was Peyton Garrelts.

Rounding out the team score for the Rebels was Drew Lewandowski with a 101 and Christian Tincher with a 117.

According to Harrington, he believes there will be a lot of improvement from his team from this meet. Especially due to the fact that it is early in the season and Ord is a tough course.

“It was the first invite for four of the five that we brought, so it’s good to get one under the belt, and I think Ord is definitely a challenging course,” Harrington said. “I’m excited to see how we play on our own course this weekend.”

The Broken Bow golf team competed next at the Lexington Invite on April 13 and A-LC held their own invite on April 10. Check out the April 22 Chief for more information on the Lexington Invite.
