AXTELL - The Sumner-Eddyville-Miller boys and girls track teams traveled down to the Axtell Invite on April 8 and walked away with several medals at the meet. One of the most notable accomplishments from Thursday, was Carson Rohde breaking the S-E-M school record in the shot put with a throw of 52’11.75.

“It was a really tough day with the weather,” S-E-M Coach Erika Kappell said. “Most of the kids did not improve their marks from the previous week, but that is pretty much how all the other teams did too. Carson did improve in the shot put and broke our school record so that was definitely a highlight.”

Besides winning the shot put, he was also the champion of discus with a throw of 145’03.50. So far this year, Rohde has not lost in the discus or shot put event at any meet that he has competed at, which is impressive, to say the least.

Also taking home two medals on the day for the Mustangs was Josie Smith in the 1,600 meter and the 3,200 meter runs. She finished third in the 1,600 meter run in a time of 13:56 and second in the 3,200 meter run in a time of 13:56.

In the girl’s discus and shot put both Audrey Reiter and Aubree Claflin medaled. Reiter was fifth in the shot put with a toss of 30’08.50 and sixth in the discus with a throw of 84’11.50, while Claflin finished fifth in the discus with a mark of 86’04.

In the 300 hurdles, Creyton Line was third in a time of 48.10. He followed that up with a fourthplace finish in the 110 hurdles, crossing the line in 18.40.

S-E-M will look to get back on track with their marks at the Bertrand Invite on April 16.
