Dick Holeman

Dick Lee Holeman, 73, of Arcadia, Neb. passed away at home Sept. 16, 2021.

He was born in Loup City at 6 a.m., Oct. 14, 1947, to Donnell I. and Gertrude I. Holeman. He was the youngest of six with four brothers and one sister.

Dick went to country schools, Westside and Deem, until eighth grade graduation. He graduated from Ansley High School in 1966.

After one year at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, Dick volunteere­d for the draft and entered the Army on Jan. 10, 1968.

He had basic training in Ft. Lewis, Wash., and AIT (advanced infantry training) in Ft. Ord, Calif. He then spent 17 months in Germany driving for high-ranking officers.

During that time, Dick was awarded the National Defense Service Medal Expert M-14 and the Army Commendati­on Medal. He was honorably discharged as an E-5 Sergeant on Dec. 30, 1969.

After returning to the United States, Dick married Peggy Lou Woodward on April 12, 1970, in Callaway. Together they had four children.

Dick worked for the

Lazy S L Ranch southwest of Callaway with Grayston and Margorie Cool for four years and with Leroy and Loretta Kuck in Bertrand for three years.

In January of 1977, Dick and his family moved to their current ranch. He was a Myrtle Township board member a total of 20 years off and on.

He worked at the Custer County Highway Dept. as a mechanic for 22 years and retired in December, 2019. On Sept. 16, 2021, he died peacefully at home with his family close by.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents; and sister-in-law June Holeman.

He is survived by his brothers and sister Eugene and Louise Holeman,

Harold and Lois Holeman, Reuben Holeman, Donnell Holeman and Sharon and Robert John; wife Peggy; children Shelley R. and Todd Boldt of Riverdale, Devon L. and Heidi Holeman of Cody, Wyo., Sheryl L. and Scott Pfeiler of Glenwood, Iowa and Susan A. and Gary Alloway of Bristol, Penn.; 13 grandchild­ren; and four great-grandchild­ren.

Dick enjoyed the ranch, cattle, horses and family, and he was very proud of his children and their families. He was dearly loved and will be sorely missed.

Funeral services were Monday, Sept. 20, 2021, at 10 a.m. at the Church of God in Broken Bow with Pastor Gary Alloway officiatin­g. Burial with Military Honors followed in the Lee Park Cemetery west of Arcadia.

Visitation was Sunday, September 19, 3-7 p.m. with family greeting 5-7 p.m. at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.

Govier Brothers Mortuary were in charge of arrangemen­ts.
