Bonnie Sanger

Bonnie Lou (Kapperman) Sanger was born Dec. 4, 1941 in Bassett, Neb. to Harry and Ella Mae (Diehl) Kapperman. She passed away Oct. 2, 2021 at the Rock County Hospital in Bassett.

She attended school in Bassett, graduating from Rock County High School in 1960. Following graduation, Bonnie attended Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln.

Bonnie married Bill Sanger on Aug. 27, 1961. Early married life saw Bill delivering milk for Gillette Dairy and Bonnie working at a local medical office.

On Feb. 3, 1965 Bill and Bonnie were blessed with twins, Jeff and Vicki. Later that same year, they purchased the home town grocery store and started their own business. Bonnie was the bookkeeper for Sanger’s Locker until the kids started school. She then began her career with the State of Nebraska Department of Heath and Human Services. She remained there for 33 years until her retirement.

Bonnie was very active in the United Methodist Church. She played the piano and organ, as well as directed and sang in the church choir. She very much enjoyed volunteeri­ng with their After School Kid’s Program.

Bonnie’s life was centered around her family. Time spent with them was always very special to her.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents Harry and Ella Mae; inlaws Eldon and Zerelle Sanger; and her sister Betty Jo Marcellus.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years Bill; son Jeff and wife Kelly of Broken Bow and their children Paul and Joelle of Lincoln; daughter Vicki and husband George Friedrich of Bassett and their children Alyx and John Klosterman of Kearney and Jake and Lacey Friedrich of Bassett and great-grandchild­ren Quinn and Aiden Klosterman; and brothers-inlaw Garry Marcellus of Atlantic, Iowa and Larry Sanger of Valentine.

Funeral services were Thursday, Oct. 7 at the Bassett United Methodist Church with Pastor Jeanie Leeper officiatin­g. Music was provided by JoAnn Swanson. The congregati­onal hymn, “Amazing Grace,” was sung. The CD Selection played was “On Eagle’s Wings” by Michael Joncas.

Interment followed in Bassett Memorial Park Cemetery.

Casket bearers were: Tom Thompson, Steve Camp, George C. Friedrich, Bernie Hart, Jim Anderson and Dave Swanson. Honorary casket bearers were Bonnie’s Wednesday Morning Coffee Club.

Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church or to the Rock County Hospital in Bonnie’s name.
