Goal line stand preserves win for Bow

BROKEN BOW - Broken Bow and Holdrege exchanged the lead several times on Friday night. The outcome of the game wasn’t decided until the final play of the game when Broken Bow stopped the Holdrege running back at the 1-yard line to give the Indians a 20 to 16 victory.

The Indians scored the first touchdown on a 37 yard run from quarterbac­k Austin Harvey. After an Indian turnover, Holdrege tied up the game on a 16 yard half-back pass. The Dusters then took the lead in the second quarter with a 40 yard field goal to make it 9 to 6.

Bow came out in the second half and regained the lead on a 1 yard touchdown by Ashton Schweitzer, but Holdrege responded with another touchdown pass to make the score 16 to 12 in favor of the Dusters. A big intercepti­on by Nathan Reynolds set up Bow in great field position in the fourth quarter. The Indians scored a 5 yard touchdown by Cyrus Wells. Zach Gaffney scored the PAT.

Broken Bow had 437 total yards on the night compared to 199 for Holdrege. Cyrus wells had 155 rushing yards while Austin Harvey racked up 122 rushing yards. Harvey had 97 passing yards spread out to Keegan Baxter, Gaffney, Max Denson, and Cyrus Wells. The leading tacklers for Bow were Connor Wells, Riese Kahnk, Keifer Anderson, and Nathan Reynolds.

Coach Wells commented, “I felt like we moved the ball and played well at times, but penalties and mistakes at costly times kept Holdrege in the game.” With the win, Broken Bow improves to 5-2. The next game is on Friday, October 15th at home against Cozad.
