- BY MONA WEATHERLY Managing Editor

BROKEN BOW - The Broken Bow School board approved the contact for Dan Helberg as 6-12 Principal at Monday evening’s regular board meeting. Also approved were two teacher contracts for Joey Hajda, science, and Anna Johnson, elementary special education.

Tobey said all positions are filled with three exceptions: School psychologist, high school Life Skills and an English teacher.

Also approved was the negotiated agreement between the School Board and the Broken Bow Education Association. Base pay was raised $300. “This was the only thing that changed,” Board president Tom Osmond said. The entry level pay of a teacher at Broken Bow schools is now $36,700.

The board approved a purchase of $111,765 for laptops and Chromebooks for teachers and students, about $3,500 less than the $115,353 spent last year.

The board tabled discussion on administration contract raises. In the past the board has approved a pool of money to be distributed by Superintendent Tobey. With recent personnel changes, the board and Tobey are determining the best way to handle it this year.

During District Accolades, Superintendent Darren Tobey recognized student Justin Johnson who has qualified to compete at national FBLA competition. The board approved endowment funds to pay for hotel expenses for 14 students to attend international HOSA competition in June.

Present at the meeting were board members JB Atkins, Tim Chancellor, Pam Holcomb, Amy Staples and board president Tom Osmond. Mary Shaw was not present. Also attending were Superintendent Darren Tobey and board secretary Kay Einsphar.

The board next meets for a work session May 2 and a regular meeting on May 16.
