Camper spots, ADA updates, maintenance discussed by fair board

- BY MONA WEATHERLY Managing Editor

BROKEN BOW Camper spots for the 2022 Custer County Fair will go on sale Saturday, April 30, at 11 a.m.

There was much discussion about camper spots during the April 14 Custer County Ag Society’s meeting. Rather than limit the size of campers on some favored spots, campers will be asked to cooperate on bringing in campers to avoid some problems that have come up during past fairs.

The Ag Society discussed plans to make the grandstands ADA compliant. Administrator Michelle Nelson will get more information from Miller & Associates on the proposed designs.

The Ag Society tabled a decision on overhead doors for the stall barn and grandstand until more information can be gathered.

The board approved Tom and Kathy Eberle Memorial Funds to be used toward purchase of picnic tables.

The bid to be submitted for the Mid-States Rodeo Finals for 2023 and 2024 was approved with minor changes.

Troy Walz with the Extension office said the Fair premium book should be back from the printers by May 15. He said the new doors on the Chuckwagon are much appreciated.

Walz also reported that the 4-H council approved an early release, 5 p.m. Wednesday, for horses only at the fair.

Regular maintenance is continuing on the fair grounds. Board members Blair Hartman and Casey Cooksley reviewed a list of items to be attended to with grounds manager JJ Martin. Martin reported that damage to the park restrooms had to be fixed.

It was noted that the busy season for the fairgrounds is getting started with barrel racing April 16, a cutting event April 23-24 and the Custer County Challenge April 30-May 1 and NBHA Spring Fling April 30-May 1.
