Coyote wrestlers earn 100 career wins

MERNA -Tristan Olson started his high school career wrestling for Sargent Public Schools. His freshman year was a struggle and he did not rack up many wins. In his sophomore year, he transferred to Anselmo-Merna and performed better, qualifying for state. In his junior year, he again qualified for state, placing 5th.

Olson started his senior year off knowing that he was getting close to 100 wins, but he had his mind on more important things. January 5th came and the Twin Loup/ Ravenna home triangular started. Tristan came into this triangular with 98 wins and then won his first match. He got the fall over his second opponent to achieve the 100th win of his career.

Tristan stated “I totally forgot that it was my 100th win until they started announcing it. It was a fantastic feeling to achieve this but, it wasn’t all me. I couldn’t have gotten this far if it wasn’t for the support that I got from my friends, family, coaches, and teammates.”

Tristan is hoping to finish this year off by qualifying for state wrestling and placing higher than he did last year.

Sid Miller has wrestled his whole career at Anselmo-Merna, going 23-16 as a freshman. He went 1-2 at the state meet. Sid racked up 26 wins his sophomore year and 36 his junior year making his record 85. He qualified for state and was Class D runner up at 195 lbs. as a junior.

Now in his senior season, Sid moved through his brackets, picking up 14 wins before Christmas break. He gained his 100th win in the first dual at the A-M triangular.

When asked his thoughts about getting that 100th win, Sid just said, “Feels Good,” and he is “Hoping to finish the season strong”.
