Custer County Chief

Did you know...?

Communities

- BY DONNIS HUEFTLE-BULLOCK General Manager

Since I feel it important to write and feature communities in Custer County, when I attend events in a neighboring community, I really feel a part of that community.

In the past seven days, I was in Sargent, Arnold and Callaway. I know some readers pass over a story or photos if it does not involve the community they live in. I hear, there is nothing about them in the paper and they tell me the name of their town.

I will tell you; we work at getting the Custer County communities in the paper; it takes time to drive the miles. Do the math on the number of miles in this county!

You will notice, this week, we have FFA featured. We could not do that if the advisors did not take the pictures and send us the information, Not only do we need to rely on the sports photographers, we rely on each of you to be our eyes and ears in the communities.

Cheryl at the Arnold EDC is always good about keeping me in the know about what Arnold has going on. I enjoyed the Saturday afternoon in Arnold. At times, going to that community is like “old home week,” since many of the families from that area also came to me for family portraits, back in the day!

It was great to see young professionals who graduated from Arnold, left for their education and are opening businesses that can better the lives of the area. Your address might not say Arnold, but I challenge you to go there for a day. Embrace all that Custer County offers, you know that, because you read it in the Chief!

With Chip’s business in Callaway, we get to many of the Chamber events. I was really happy for the Celebrate Callaway event that was held Sunday evening. I invited a new family that has recently moved and purchased a home between Callaway and Arnold so they could be introduced. They had placed an ad with the Chief and X-tra this week about their new mowing service. I was happy they accepted the invitation and enjoyed having the meal with their young family and visiting with them to find out why they wanted to move from the Omaha area to Custer County. Working remotely has opened up the opportunity for new families to explore what Custer County has to offer.

If you read the Chief - whether you live in the county or have lived here and take the paper to keep up - we appreciate you reading. If you can’t travel around much, by reading the Chief you keep up on what is going on, not only in the town you use as a zip code, but also other communities that you can discover you can be proud you are part of a county that celebrates all that is going on.
