Carl “Joe” Welte, 77, died March 10, 2023 at Goshen Healthcare Community in Torrington, Wyo.

Joe was born Jan. 10, 1946, in Broken Bow, Neb. the son of Carl and Marie (Fritz) Welte, Sr.

He grew up in Ansley where he received his education, graduating Ansley High School. He attended college for a short time before entering the US Navy. Upon his discharge he returned to Nebraska.

He married Sally Baburek Nov. 26, 1971 in Broken Bow. They lived in Alliance where he worked for Burlington Northern Railroad. He spent his entire career with Burlington, retiring in 2006. They moved to

Lingle, Wyo. in 1980.

Joe enjoyed model railroadin­g, hunting, fishing and spending time with his grandchild­ren. He was a member of Saint Rose Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus and was a lifetime member of the American Legion.

Joe is survived by his son William (Chris) Welte of Central City; daughter Tammy (Jeffrey) Odell of Greeley, Colo,: sister Carla (Steve) Jeschke of Minnesota; brothers Louis (Jeanne) Welte of Nebraska and Brad (Susan) Welte of California; and grandchild­ren Zack, Zander and Zane Welte and Emma and Nathan Odell.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife Sally.

Mass of Christian Burial was at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 16, at Saint Rose Catholic Church in Lingle, Wyo. with Father Dan Kostelc officiatin­g. Burial followed in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Lingle.

A Rosary was recited at 10 a.m. prior to the Mass. Visitation was 3-5 p.m.,Wednesday, March 15, at the funeral home and the casket was open at the Rosary.
