Legislativ­e candidate Tangwall discusses back taxes

When Tony Tangwall of Dawes County announced his candidacy for the Dist. 43 legislativ­e seat on Feb. 17, he spoke of back taxes.

A search of public records on the Internet shows a total of $8,616.67 property taxes that were due in 2023 and delinquent. The Dawes County Treasurer’s Office and subsequent searches on the Internet show that those taxes were paid in full February 9, 2024.

During his launch speech, Tangwall mentioned $30,000 owed to the state of Nebraska. A list found on the Nebraska Dept, of Revenue website site shows $33,854.35 delinquent in Individual Income Tax.

Contacted Tuesday by the Custer County Chief, Tangwall said all taxes have been paid in full. “If you listened to my launch speech, you’d know what I said,” he told the Chief. He confirmed the delinquent income tax was a result of property sale. “We had a payment plan of $1,000 per month,” Tangwall said. “That is paid in full. We do not owe the state of Nebraska anything.

Anthony Tangwall, said he moved to his property in Dawes County in February, 2001. Asked about several lawsuits in other states (Alaska, Montana, Michigan) that can be found for Donald A. Tangwall, Tony Tangwall said. “Those are not my lawsuits.” Asked to clarify if the lawsuits are connected to his father, also named Donald A. Tangwall, Tony Tangwall said, “That is his business. That is not me.”
