Did you know...? Engage - Fail - Learn

- BY DONNIS HUEFTLE-BULLOCK General Manager

Life is all about learning. No matter what age, you continue to learn.

Last week we had all the high school and college students who received scholarships from the Custer County Foundation in the issue for March 21. Each of those students over the course of their studies will engage - fail - and learn. Many might possibly change the course in their path of education before getting their college degree,

This week, Mona spotlighted the Safranek family on their 142 years farming the land. Over those 142 years and the multiple generations, how many times do you think they engaged, failed and learned? The family could not have held onto the land for the number of years without failing some.

I have engaged to try new recipes. Some of those I have engaged in, I was told, “It was alright.” In other words, don’t make it again! Others I have received positive remarks!

Little children learning to walk engage to stand on their legs and take steps only to find they don’t have the balance and fall. Older individuals find that if they want to keep moving, they need to engage themselves and protect themselves from falling. They cannot afford to fail and fall. They will not learn anything from that if they don’t take the proper steps to protect themselves.

Coming up, we are looking to the primary election. I attended the Republican County convention. There are a number of individuals who have engaged to run on local, county, state and national levels. It is up to all of us as voters to look into every area that each of them stands on. Listen to them speak and ask questions. Are you a person that just marks a box “just because?” If you are, then even though you engage to vote, you fail because you did not learn about the candidate.

The past few days we all prepared for the upcoming blizzard. In this day and age, the weather is always unpredictable; it does not always turn out as the forecasters predicts. The most trained meteorologist engages to tell us the forecast. Given what we were told on Sunday, and being a person that does not feel I should put off today what I believe I can get done tomorrow, I traveled to the office on Sunday to start the layout of the paper to make sure we met the press deadline on Tuesday. We did not receive the 10 inches forecast, We engaged early because I did not want us to fail in getting the deadline met for all of you to have your papers in the mail box on Thursday.

Every day of our lives we engage. Congratulations on engaging and be willing to either succeed or fail, because you learn and keep growing.
