Palos Verdes triumphs over Redondo in two OTs

It was a busy night in the Bay League on Friday.

The two biggest results came as Palos Verdes (13-5, 1-2) defeated Redondo 85-82 in double overtime.

Jake Koyama led PV with 24 points. He also had four assists and five steals. Carson Kim (15), Troy Takahashi (12) and Sean Cosgrove (11) all scored in double digits.

Bradley Bennett led Redondo with 30 points and David Solimando had 18.

The game was tied at 64 at the end of regulation and 72 at the end of the first overtime.

The win leaves PV and Redondo (12-7, 1-2) tied in the standings.

The other big game happened at Mira Costa as the Mustangs (13-5, 1-1) defeated Culver City 74-54.

Mira Costa can move to 2-1 in league if it can defeat Santa Monica today at 5 p.m.

In other Friday action: PENINSULA 54, SANTA MONICA 40 >> Liam Smith led the Panthers (14-3, 3-0) with 17 points and Brayden Smith and Yumin Kim had 11 apiece in the Bay League win.

Phil Kelly scored seven for the Panthers, who are the only undefeated team through the first three games of the five-game season. LEUZINGER 85, CENTENNIAL 38 >> The Olympians (3-10, 1-0) finally opened Ocean League play and did it with a big win.

Junior guard Louis Thomas led the Olympians with 31 points and fellow junior Amire Jones had 14.

Freshmen Joshua Garland had 16 points and Malachi Knight had 12.

TORRANCE 64, NORTH TORRANCE 48 >> Andre De Los Reyes scored 20 points as the Tartars (7-12, 1-1) took down the Saxons in Pioneer League play.

Omar Mahmoud had 10 points and Jeremy Sokolich had eight for the Tartars.

WISEBURN DA VINCI 52, CALIFORNIA 46 >> Jayce Johnson scored 18 points and Alonzo Gonzales and Kevin Moreno had 10 and nine, respective­ly for the Wolves (15-6, 1-1).

ST. GENEVIEVE 49, MARY STAR 46 >> Will Lien had 18 points and Luka Fiamengo had 10 for the Stars (7-12, 1-2) in the Santa Fe League loss.

SERRA 95, CATHEDRAL 75 >> The Cavaliers (16-7, 3-2) bounced back from their loss to Bishop Montgomery with a comfortabl­e win in Del Rey League action.

Serra led 68-35 at halftime.

Tomi Adesiji led the way with 25 points. Jeremy Dent-Smith had 20 and Duke Gipson added 13.

LAWNDALE 60, SOUTH TORRANCE 55 >> Daniel Michelini-Jackson scored 30 as the Cardinals (6-10, 1-1) picked up their first Pioneer League.

Elijah Groves had eight points and Excel Godbless and Dylan Martinez had six apiece.

WEST TORRANCE 43, EL SEGUNDO 39 >> The Warriors (13-8, 3-0) remained undefeated in Pioneer League play with the win, led by Amare Holmes’ 15-point, eight-rebound performanc­e.

GARDENA 62, SAN PEDRO 45 >> Chase Williams scored 18 points and Jarron Ponds had 14 to help the Panthers (17-5, 4-0) remain undefeated in the Marine League.

WEST TORRANCE 59, EL SEGUNDO 30 >> Christina Swenson scored 13 points and Nicole Chuang had 10 and Milani Vo nine as the Warriors (12-7, 3-0) defeated the Eagles in Pioneer League action.

NORTH TORRANCE 69, TORRANCE 42 >> Dara Tokeshi scored 20 points and Kate Eguchi had nine points, seven rebounds and five steals in the Pioneer League win for the Saxons (12-3, 4-0).

LAWNDALE 55, SOUTH TORRANCE 42 >> Kimiko Kennedy had 23 points and 18 rebounds and Tiara Eatmon had 10 points and six rebounds for the Cardinals (16-2, 1-1) in the Pioneer League win.

PENINSULA 60, SANTA MONICA 43 >> Eliana Hall (18 points, 15 rebounds) and Jadyn Lee (15 points, 12 rebounds) turned in doubledoub­les to lead the Panthers (12-7, 2-1) in the Bay League victory.

Jami Galdones had nine points and Kellie Au had eight points and nine rebounds.

MIRA COSTA 61, CULVER CITY 46 >> The Mustangs improved to 15-4 overall and 2-1 in the Bay League with the win.

Hannah Gedion led the Mustangs with 16 points, Willow Smith had 13, Maile Nakaji finished with 12 and Bella Blum had 10.

The Mustangs begin next week with a game against Peninsula in a batle of 2-1 league teams.
