Mira Costa girls commence league play with two wins

The Mira Costa girls soccer team returned to action Friday with a win and followed with another one Saturday.

In their first game since Dec. 20, sophomore Sydney Bushman scored a pair of goals to lead the Mustangs to a 2-0 win over Culver City on Friday.

Saturday, the sophomore converted a penalty kick after she was fouled in the penalty area, eventually giving the Mustangs (8-2, 2-0) a 1-0 win over Santa Monica.

The game was originally scheduled for last week, but was reschedule­d.

WEST TORRANCE 2, EL SEGUNDO 1 >> The Warriors (112-2, 3-0) got a goal from Hannah Nagashima and an own goal to defeat the Eagles in Pioneer League play.

PORT OF LOS ANGELES 6, JORDAN 1 >> Riah Rivera and Naty Wehbe scored a pair of goals in the Imperial League win for the Polar Bears (6-2, 4-0).

SAN PEDRO 9, NARBONNE 0 >> Alexia Leon scored a hat trick and Summer Jackson and Emily Robledo had two goals in the Marine League opening win for the Pirates (8-3, 1-0).

Boys

MIRA COSTA 1, CULVER CITY 0 >> For the second time in the week, the Mustangs (10-12, 3-0) again received some late-game heroics to record the win.

Tuesday, the Mustangs got an overtime winner and Friday Seeger Wigodsky scored the winning goal in the last minute for a 1-0 win over Culver City.

Zachary Davis got the assist and Jack Walter had three saves for the shutout.

REDONDO 1, PALOS VERDES 0 >> The Sea Hawks bounced back from Tuesday’s overtime loss to Mira Costa with an overtime win over the Sea Kings.

Ryan Doyle scored the winning goal for the Sea Hawks (8-5, 2-1).
