Walk-off homer by Yanks' Judge game's lone run

-

Aaron Judge hit his third walk-off homer this year, his major league-leading 39th home run, to lift the New York Yankees over the Kansas City Royals 1-0 Thursday night.

New York was held to one hit before Judge drove a first-pitch fastball from Scott Barlow (4-3) into the Kansas City bullpen with one out in the ninth, a 431-foot drive that gave the Yankees their 12th walk-off win this season.

Clay Holmes (5-1) worked around two walks in a hitless ninth, combining on a four-hitter with Jameson Taillon and Ron Marinaccio.

Brady Singer allowed one hit in seven innings, a two-out single in the fourth by Gleyber Torres.

ASTROS 4, MARINERS 2 >> Alex Bregman hit a two-run homer in the first inning, and his tiebreaking RBI double in the eighth led host Houston over Seattle.

The victory snapped a three-game skid after the Astros suffered their first series sweep of the season at Oakland.

The game was tied at 2 when Andrés Muñoz (1-4) hit Yuli Gurriel between the chest and shoulder with a 100 mph fastball to start Houston's eighth.

Gurriel stole second and Bregman doubled off the wall in left-center field for a 3-2 lead. Bregman then scored on a two-out wild pitch.

MARLINS 7, REDS 6 >> Miami earned a split of the four-game road series by overcoming a 5-4, ninth-inning deficit.

Pinch-hitter Jesús Sánchez led off the inning with a home run off Hunter Strickland (2-3), who then walked Luke Williams and hit Jacob Stallings with a pitch.

Wendle hit a go-ahead double against Buck Farmer, and Jesús Aguilar followed with a sacrifice fly for his fourth RBI.

PHILLIES 8, PIRATES 7 >> Kyle Schwarber hit his National League-leading 32nd homer and Zack Wheeler pitched seven strong innings as visiting Philadelphia built an 8-0 lead and then held on to down Pittsburgh.

Schwarber's three-run shot to right-center field off Zach Thompson in the sixth inning gave the Phillies a 7-0 lead. In the seventh, rookie Cal Mitchell ended Wheeler's shutout bid with a two-run homer.

Wheeler (9-5) allowed two runs on three hits while striking out eight and walking three.

ORIOLES 3, RAYS 0 >> Trey Mancini hit an insidethe-park home run and host Baltimore blanked Tampa Bay.

The Orioles took three of four from the Rays and have put together a winning record in consecutive months for the first time since 2016.

Mancini came up with one on and two outs in the eighth and the Orioles up 1-0. He lifted a routine flyball to right, but Josh Lowe appeared to have trouble with the sun and missed the ball. It hit the left side of his face and bounced away, and Mancini circled the bases.

RED SOX 4, GUARDIANS 2 >> Xander Bogaerts hit a three-run homer in the sixth inning, and Boston beat Cleveland at Fenway Park for just its fifth win in its last 20 games.
