HOLIDAY CLOSURES

-

The holiday season is upon us. That means festivities and fun — but also a lack of available services. Christmas Day and New Year's Day are both on Sundays this year, meaning government agencies will observe the holidays on the following Mondays.

Here is a general look at what you can expect to be open and closed, and what services will operate, in the South Bay during the holidays. For a complete and specific list of holiday closures, go to your city's website.

Open on New Year's Day:

• Fire stations and lifeguard stations.

• All parks and trails.

Closed on New Year's Day:

• City halls in the South Bay.

• City-run COVID test sites.

• Police and fire headquarters, though emergency services will still be available.

• Libraries.

• City health departments and health facilities.

• Park offices and community park facilities.

• Swimming pools.

• West Basin Municipal Water District.

• Federal and state offices, such as courthouses and post offices.

Open on Monday and Jan. 2 during regular business hours:

• Some COVID-19testing sites may be open, while others will be closed. Check your city websites for details.

• Trash and recycling may be collected as normal or be collected the next day depending on service schedule. Check your specific city or collection agency for more information.

Closed on Monday and Jan. 2:

• City halls.

• Police and fire headquarters, though emergency services will still be available.

• Health department offices.

• Energy resources offices.

• Water department offices.

• Park administration offices and park offices.

Many cities will postpone street sweeping or enforcement of street sweeping violations on Monday or Jan. 2. If so, they will resume the following days. Check your city's website to confirm.

Parking enforcement may or may not occur as usual. If parking at a meter, it's always best to check if it says you are exempt from paying on holidays
