HIGH SCHOOL BOYS BASKETBALL RANKINGS

The CIF-Southern Section and L.A. City Section boys basketball playoffs begin this week. St. Bernard was the lone South Bay team to win at CIF-SS championsh­ip last season and only Harbor Teacher won in the L.A. City Section. Will there be more champions this season?

Here is a look at the area's final Top 15 rankings:

FINAL BOYS BASKETBALL TOP 15 1. Bishop Montgomery 25-2

The Knights split the Del Rey League title and is the No. 4seed in the CIFSS Open Division playoffs. They start the playoffs with consecutiv­e home games, Friday against Notre Dame and Tuesday against Sierra Canyon.

2. St. Bernard 21-5

The Vikings pulled off a big win over Bishop Montgomery and completed the week with a win over St. Anthony. Can the young Vikings cause any problems in the Open Division playoffs?

3. Mira Costa 25-2

The Mustangs had their 12-game winning streak snapped by rival Redondo. They have a first-round bye in the Division 1playoffs and will open Friday at home against Fairmont Prep or Brentwood.

4. Redondo 19-9

SJ Madison led Redondo with 13 points in the regular-season finale win over Mira Costa. The Sea Hawks will open the Division 2A playoffs at home tonight against Bishop Diego.

5. Rolling Hills Prep 22-5

The Huskies have won eight consecutiv­e games since their doubleover­time loss to Village Christian in The Classic at Damien. They begin the Division 1playoffs tonight against Cajon.

6. Narbonne 17-8

The Gauchos won the Marine League and received the top seed for the L.A. City Section Open Division playoffs. Marcus Adams Jr. didn't play against Banning and his younger brother Maximo scored 43points. Can anybody stop the Gauchos from winning the City title?

7. Leuzinger 20-8

Leuzinger went 9-1and won the Ocean League title. The Olympians secured the top seed in the Division 4AA playoffs and will open at home against Crossroads Christian.

8. North Torrance 22-5

The Pioneer League champion Saxons are another South Bay team that could make an extended playoff run. North is the No. 2seed in Division 5AA and will host New Roads in the first round tonight.

9. Westcheste­r 19-9

The Comets ended the season with a 52-39win over Venice. They finished second in the Western League and received the eighth seed in the Open Division. The Comets face top-seeded Narbonne in the first round.

10. Palos Verdes 17-10

The Sea Kings finished fifth in the Bay League and earned an at-large entry into the Division 2A playoffs. Next five: 11. San Pedro 18-10; 12. Wiseburn Da Vinci 18-10; 13. Lawndale 15-14; 14. West Torrance 14-15; 15. Inglewood 14-11
