THE GAME: The Angels suffered their first loss of the spring, dropping an 8-6 decision to the San Francisco Giants on Monday in Tempe, Ariz.

PITCHING REPORT: Left-hander Patrick Sandoval pitched two scoreless innings, the third time in three games the Angels' starter did not allow a run. Sandoval gave up a double off the fence to the first batter of the game, but he escaped the inning with no damage by getting a double play. Sandoval said he felt he was “kind of rushing myself” because of the pitch timer, but he added that “I'll get used to it pretty quick.” Sandoval threw just 20pitches and then went down to the bullpen to throw 20more. He has one more start with the Angels before leaving to pitch for Team Mexico in the World Baseball Classic . ... Righthande­r Jaime Barria pitched a perfect inning but then gave up four runs on four hits in his second inning. It was Barria's only outing with the Angels before he leaves to pitch for Panama, which is playing in Taiwan in the WBC . ... Right-hander Carlos Estevez recorded just one out and gave up three runs in his first outing of the spring. Estevez issued two walks and gave up a bloop hit.

HITTING REPORT: Jared Walsh doubled down the left field line and singled into center field. Walsh, who did not play in either of the first two games, missed the end of last season after undergoing thoracic outlet syndrome surgery . ... Luis Rengifo hit a two-run homer over the right field fence, his first homer of the spring . ... Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani each singled . ... Gio Urshela remained in the game for a third at-bat, while most of the starters had only two. He drove in a run with a single during his third trip.

DEFENSE REPORT: Shortstop David Fletcher double-clutched on a ground ball, but still recovered in time to get the out at first . ... Walsh made a nice play on a ball up the first base line . ... Trout made a catch along the warning track in the leftcenter field gap . ... The Angels would have had an out at third, but third baseman Urshela had the ball knocked out of his glove as he was trying to tag the runner . ... First baseman Kevin Padlo made a diving stop of a ball headed up the line.
