Redondo gets pair of Bay League softball wins

Bailey Murray struck out 14 to lead the Redondo softball team to an 8-2 Bay League win over Palos Verdes Friday.

Saturday morning, she recorded 11 more strikeouts and allowed just one hit as the Sea Hawks defeated Culver City 2-0. Saturday's game was reschedule­d from earlier in the week due to the recent rains.

Natalie Omahen and Abby Luis had multiple hits for Redondo.

Friday, Kaya Aguirre drove in four runs and Annie Maden drove in two in the win over PV.

Scotti Weems, Daisy Baker, Maden and Aguirre had two hits apiece.

MARY STAR 9, SAN PEDRO 8 >> The neighborho­od teams met for the first time since 2012.

The Stars prevailed thanks to Janelle Vega's game-winning two-run single.

Tele Jennings, Joci Mayorga, Mina Tala and Destiny Contreras had two hits apiece. Tala pitched three innings and struck out four to get the win.

WEST TORRANCE 5, EL SEGUNDO 1 >> Kamaile Ho pitched a complete game with four strikeouts to lead the Warriors (7-6, 2-0) to the Pioneer League win. Rylee White had three hits and drove in three runs. Baseball

CHADWICK 2, FLINTRIDGE PREP 1 >> Nathan Castro allowed one run in 6 2/3 innings and had two hits, including a triple in the Friday win.

Gabriel Jones picked his third save of the season.

MIRA COSTA 6, LAKEWOOD 4 >> Jack Singer pitched 4 2/3 innings and struck out six for the Mustangs Saturday.

Hogan Nameth had three hits and drove in two runs. Jackson Zawacki also drove in two runs.

TORRANCE 10, CALIFORNIA 0>> Evan Saito and Slater Nunez both had a pair of hits and drove in two runs for the Warriors Saturday.

Nunez earned the win, pitching a complete game, allowing just one hit with four strikeouts and one walk.

Women's basketball

Third-seeded CS Dominguez Hills (31-2) will open play in the NCAA Division II Elite Eight on Monday at 10 a.m. against No. 6 seed Catawba College (28-5).

The game will be played at the Joseph Civic Center in St. Joseph, Missouri. The winners advance to the semifinals on Wednesday.
