GAME RECAP

THE GAME: Chase Silseth, who is one of the candidates for the Angels' No. 6 starter job, gave up eight runs in the Angels' 10-0loss to the Cincinnati Reds on Monday in Goodyear, Ariz.

PITCHING REPORT: Silseth started with two perfect innings, but he lasted only 3-1/3. He gave up one in the third and then seven more in the fourth. Silseth struck out two and walked one. “It sounds like a broken record to last year,” Silseth said. “Things go good and then I let them trickle away. Bottom line, I can't let that happen. I just kind of lost feel. Lost rhythm. Just kind of left some pitches up that they did some damage on.” Silseth was hanging around the fringes of the No. 6 starter competition based on allowing four runs in his first 10innings, but he's now allowed 12 runs in 13-2/3 innings. Tucker Davidson, one of the other candidates, also had a rough game on Sunday. Griffin Canning, who is returning from a back injury, has not pitched as much as the other two, but he was very good in his last outing.

HITTING REPORT: The Angels loaded the bases with one out in the fourth when Gio Urshela singled between walks to Hunter Renfroe and Logan O'Hoppe. The Angels didn't score because Kevin Padlo struck out and then Jordyn Adams hit a flyout to center . ... David Fletcher had two singles and Luis Rengifo doubled. Each was playing his first game since rejoining the team after the World Baseball Classic. DEFENSE REPORT: Left fielder Taylor Ward threw to second instead of third, even though Spencer Steer was already at second with a double. With the cutoff man in position for a throw to third, Steer was able to take third as Ward's throw bounced into second. Ward also misplayed a single, allowing a runner to score and the hitter to take second.
