City officials believe a body found in the Angeles National Forest earlier this week is that of a missing South Pasadena man who went hiking July 15.

The officials were waiting for official confirmation from the medical examiner's office.

The remains were discovered Tuesday night, 300 feet down a ravine in the forest's Lower Clamshell Area, South Pasadena Deputy City Manager Domenica Megerdichian said.

Department, with help from the Sheriff's Department, Los Angeles County Fire Air Operations and the Sierra Madre Search and Rescue Team, recovered the body Wednesday morning.

“It was a pretty rough terrain,” South Pasadena Police Chief Brian Solinsky said.

The location was within the area rescuers were searching for Colin Brian Walker, who had taken the Clamshell Trail in Monrovia. A Ring camera from a house near the trail recorded the 53-year-old South Pasadena man heading for the trail just before 6:30 a.m. the day he went missing.

“Based upon the location of the discovery and property found at the scene, South Pasadena police investigators are reasonably certain the deceased is the lost hiker who was the focus of the search and rescue operation,” the city said in a statement. “No foul play is suspected.”

What property was discovered wasn't disclosed.

Walker's brother and a friend reported him missing to South Pasadena police July 17. Monrovia police found his car that day in the 900 block of Ridgeside Drive in Monrovia, where there is a trailhead.
