Serra leads the South Bay in CalPreps ratings
Heading into the second week of Mission League play, the Serra football team leads South Bay teams in the CIF Southern Section CalPreps ratings.
The Cavaliers (4-2, 1-0) checked in at No. 10 on Monday.
Serra has league games remaining against Notre Dame (Friday), Bishop Amat, Sierra Canyon and Alemany.
If they finish the season at No. 10, the Cavaliers would probably be placed in the Division 1 playoff bracket or they might be a top seed in the Division 2 bracket.
The size of the Division 1 bracket will be determined after the regular season ends. Last season, there were 10 teams in the Division 1 playoffs.
There are four weeks left in the regular season, and the rankings could change a lot during that time.
Palos Verdes, which opened the Bay League with a 27-0 win over Santa Monica last week, is at No. 17 in the CalPreps rankings. Leuzinger is at No. 27 and Inglewood at No. 42.
It will be interesting to see how far up in the rankings moves the winner of the Oct. 20 game between Leuzinger and Inglewood. That game will be for the Ocean League title.
Other notable South Bay teams in the ratings: No. 80 Lawndale; No. 106 Redondo; No. 107 Mira Costa; No. 148 Torrance; No. 152 North Torrance; No. 160 Peninsula; No. 227 South Torrance; No. 233 El Segundo; No. 238 West Torrance; No. 290 Bishop Montgomery; No. 315 Hawthorne; No. 316 Mary Star and No. 359 Morningside.
