Last season, the Palos Verdes girls basketball team won three games.

Saturday, the Sea Kings will be competing in the CIF-Southern Section Division 4A semifinals.

Maddie Farnsworth scored 24 points to go along with four rebounds, two assists and eight rebounds in a 48-35 win over Diamond Ranch in the quarterfinals Wednesday. Quinn Tamashiro added 14 points.

The Sea Kings (21-7) will be at West Ranch for their semifinal Saturday at 7 p.m. A win would send PV to its first CIF-SS final since 1991.

“We added two freshmen (Quinn Tamashiro and Katie Golden) and they have been essential in our turnaround, both on the offensive and defensive side,” Palos Verdes coach Daniel Rho said. “Maddie Farnsworth has been our leading scorer again this year and showed her dominance and leadership with a 24-point, eight-steal effort (Wednesday).”

Palos Verdes defeated Newbury Park Adventist (69-19) and Rosemead (5626) in the first two rounds of the playoffs.

The Sea Kings' roster has six juniors, four sophomores and two freshmen.
