Rangers tie record with 10th straight win

Alexis Lafrenière scored, Matt Rempe netted his first career goal and got visiting New York going with a firstperio­d fight and the Rangers tied a franchise record with their 10th straight victory, beating the Philadelph­ia Flyers 2-1 on Saturday.

Igor Shesterkin made 39 saves for the Rangers, who previously won 10 in a row during the 1972-73 and 193940 seasons. They can set a club mark for consecutiv­e victories today at Columbus. The Metropolit­an Division-leading Rangers have not lost since Jan. 26.

Tyson Foerster scored for Philadelph­ia, which was defeated for just the third time in its last eight games.

Rempe, a 6-foot-7 rookie sixth-round pick playing in his fourth career game, netted the game-winner when Barclay Goodrow's shot deflected off his right skate and past goalie Samuel Ersson with 13:29 to play. Ersson made 22 saves.

DEVILS 4, CANADIENS 3 » After losing two in a row and three of its previous four, host New Jersey played with more desperatio­n against Montreal and got rewarded with something rare — a win and a power-play goal. Nico Hischier woke up the Devils' anemic power play by scoring with 6:27 to play, helping send Montreal to its fifth straight loss.

Jesper Bratt, Timo Meier and Ondrej Palat also scored for New Jersey and Nick Suzuki scored twice for the Canadiens.

PANTHERS 3, CAPITALS 2 (OT) » Defenseman Gustav Forsling scored at 3:41 of overtime to give host Florida a victory over Washington in

Capitals star Alex Ovechkin's 1,400th NHL game. Carter Verhaeghe tied it for the Panthers on a power play with 3:30 to go in regulation.

Ovechkin became the 41st skater in NHL history to reach the milestone. He's the 10th to ever do it with one team.

Sonny Milano and Tom Wilson scored Washington. RED WINGS 6, BLUES 1 » Alex DeBrincat had two goals and an assist and host Detroit scored three times in the first six minutes while rolling over St. Louis. Patrick Kane extended his point streak to seven games with a goal and an assist as the Red Wings won their fourth straight. Michael Rasmussen also had a goal and an assist.

Josh Norris, Thomas Chabot and Drake Batherson scored in regulation for the Senators while Anton Forsberg made 26 saves.

Chandler Stephenson scored twice and Jonathan Marchessau­lt had a goal for the Golden Knights, who lost their third in a row. Logan Thompson stopped 30 shots. MAPLE LEAFS 4, AVALANCHE 3» Tyler Bertuzzi scored three times, including a goahead, power-play goal with 2:51 remaining and visiting Toronto beat Colorado for its seventh straight win. Bertuzzi recorded his third career hat trick on his 29th birthday.

Nathan MacKinnon had three assists for the Avalanche.

It's the fourth hat trick of the month for the Maple Leafs. Only four teams have had four hat tricks in a single month over the last 25 years, according to NHL Stats. The list also includes Winnipeg (November 2018), Columbus (March 2018) and Los Angeles (November 2005). STARS 2, HURRICANES 1 » Jason Robertson and Wyatt Johnston scored as visiting Dallas beat Carolina to snap a four-game losing streak. Miroi Heiskanen had two assists and Jake Oettinger made 20 saves for the Central Division-leading Stars, who were 0-2-2 during their skid.

Sebastian Aho scored for the Hurricanes, who had won four straight. Pyotr Kochetkov stopped 14 shots.

LIGHTNING 4, ISLANDERS 2 » Nikita Kucherov had a goal and two assists and visiting Tampa Bay beat New York to snap a three-game skid.

Nicholas Paul, Brayden Point and Luke Glendening also scored for the Lightning. Kucherov leads the NHL with 98 points (37 goals and 61 assists).

Anders Lee and Brock Nelson scored for the Islanders, who lost for the fifth time in six games. Defenseman Noah Dobson added two assists.

COYOTES TERMINATE RUZICKA'S CONTRACT » Adam Ruzicka's contract is being terminated by the Arizona Coyotes after he cleared unconditio­nal waivers on Saturday.

The Coyotes put him on waivers Friday after Ruzicka posted to social media a video showing him with a white powder appearing to be cocaine and a credit card on a counter. The team announced only that Ruzicka went on waivers for terminatio­n purposes and said it would have no further comment.
