Iowa overcomes struggles to win

Caitlin Clark scored 32 points and No. 1 seed Iowa survived one of its worst offensive performanc­es of the season to beat Albany 2 Regional No. 8 seed West Virginia 64-54 on Monday night in a women's NCAA Tournament second-round game.

The Hawkeyes (31-4) advanced to play No. 5 seed Colorado in the Sweet 16.

Sydney Affolter's threepoint play with 2:03 to play, the Hawkeyes' lone field goal of the fourth quarter, gave Iowa a 55-52 lead. Clark and Hannah Stuelke closed the game with nine free throws to clinch the win. The Hawkeyes were 14 of 17 from the foul line in the final quarter while the Mountainee­rs took just one free throw.

Clark hit two free throws near the end of the game to break the single-season NCAA Division I scoring record of 1,109 held by Kelsey Plum.

Iowa came into the game leading the nation in scoring at 92.8 points per game, but the Hawkeyes were held to their lowest single-game point total this season while shooting just 36.4% from the field.

Stuelke had 12 points and 11 rebounds.

West Virginia opened the fourth quarter with a 10-0 run to tie the game with 5:18 to play, setting up the final minutes.

JJ Quinerly led West Virginia (25-8) with 15 points.

Albany 1 Regional

NOTRE DAME 71, MISSISSIPP­I 56 >> Maddy Westbeld scored 20 points and Hannah Hidalgo added 19 to help the second-seeded Fighting Irish beat the visiting seventh-seeded Rebels (24-9).

Notre Dame (28-6) advances to play No. 3 seed Oregon State.

The Fighting Irish bolted to a 21-9 lead after one quarter, harassing the Rebels into 4-of-17 shooting in the first quarter while connecting on 6 of 12 shots. INDIANA 75, OKLAHOMA 68 >> Mackenzie Holmes scored 29 points, including six in a row, to give the host fourthseed­ed Hoosiers a late lead as they rallied past the fifth-seeded Sooners.

Sydney Parrish added 17 points, eight rebounds and five assists for Indiana (26-6), which advanced to its second Sweet 16 in three years and now faces undefeated No. 1 overall seed South Carolina.

Big 12 Player of the Year Skylar Vann had 20 points and eight rebounds for Oklahoma (23-10), which walked off the floor dejectedly after a fourth consecutiv­e second-round loss in the NCAA Tournament.

The nation's top field goal and 3-point shooting team. Indiana was just 38.8% from the field and 18.8% from beyond the arc in a back-and-forth game.

Portland 3 Regional

UCONN 72, SYRACUSE 64 >> Paige Bueckers tied her season high with 32 points, freshman Ashlynn Shade added 19 and the thirdseede­d Huskies held off the visiting sixth-seeded Orange to earn a 30th straight trip to the Sweet 16. UConn will face Duke. Dyaisha Fair scored 18 of her 20 points in the second half as Syracuse came back from a 12-point first-half deficit to pull within two with just under two minutes left.

The Orange (24-8) missed four 3-point tries down the stretch and UConn (31-5) scored seven of the game's final eight points.

Portland 4 Regional

N.C. STATE 79, TENNESSEE 72 >> Aziaha James scored 22 points and the No. 3 seed Wolfpack blew nearly all of a 20-point lead before defeating the sixth-seeded Lady Vols (20-13).

Saniya Rivers added 20 points for host N.C. State (29-6), which dominated the second quarter to build that huge margin.

Tennessee got as close as two points in the fourth, but N.C. State protected its lead to earn a date with No. 2 seed Stanford in the Sweet 16.

Rickea Jackson had 33 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Lady Vols.
