Rangers third baseman Jung fractures his wrist

-

Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung fractured his right wrist on a strange strike in the ninth inning of Monday night's 9-3 win over the Tampa Bay Rays.

Jung was hit by a Phil Maton pitch while swinging and was replaced by Josh Smith to finish the plate appearance. The two batters before Jung had been hit by pitches from Maton.

Texas manager Bruce Bochy had no timetable for how long Jung will be out.

Jung, who had 23 homers and 70 RBIs as a rookie last season, missed time during spring training with a calf strain.

The 26-year-old fractured his left thumb last season on a 110 mph liner off the bat of Jorge Soler that bounced out of his glove. Jung recovered to start a double play.

METS' MEGILL ON IL >> Tylor Megill was placed on the 15-day injured list with a right shoulder strain, one day after the New

York Mets' right-hander was limited to four innings in his season debut.

It is the fourth trip to the IL in the last three seasons for Megill, who missed more than three months with a right shoulder strain in 2022. He said the discomfort in 2022 was much more intense than what he experienced Sunday, when he allowed one earned run.

Megill, who played at Los Alamitos High and Cypress College, was 9-8 in 25 starts last season.

He'll be shut down from throwing for five to seven days. D-BACKS' THOMAS OUT >> Arizona Diamondbacks starting center fielder Alek Thomas was placed on the 10-day injured list with a strained left hamstring.

Thomas was hurt early in Sunday's game against the Colorado Rockies while running down the first base line. He grabbed at his hamstring after passing the base, though he stayed in the game for one more inning before leaving.
