Longmont library rolls out curated pickup program

Takeaway bags will contain 5 to 10 hand-selected, related materials

Longmont Public Librar y announced Monday its new librarian-curated “Pick-aTopic Takeaway Bags” are available for residents to pick-up curbside starting today.

“With the public still not allowed to wander the Longmont Library, local librarians have been creative in meeting the needs of patrons hungry for library materials,” Teresa Myers, Longmont Public Library spokeswoman, wrote in a news release.

Myers wrote, “the concept is as simple as it sounds: a patron picks a topic, librarians fill a bag with materials related to that topic or interest and the patron picks it up through the Library’s Curbside Deliver y process.”

The Pick-a-topic Takeaway bags will contain five to 10 hand-selected, related librar y materials, which are available for all age groups and reading levels, and placed in an grab bag for library patrons to pick-up. The program and materials are available for both English and Spanish speakers according to Myers.

“Librarians aim to have the bags ready for pick-up within two to three days and patrons will be notified by phone call or email when their bags are ready,” Myers wrote. She also said due dates for every item in a patrons bag will be listed individually on their check out receipts and that curbside librar y-goers may only check out one bag at a time.

Pick-a-topic bags can be picked up by driving or walking up to the library’s designated curbside pick-up location off of Emery Street and then patrons will need to call 303-651-8476 to let librarians know they have arrived. There will be a staff member on the east side of the library to assist those who do not have a cell phone. If anyone has limited mobility and requires additional service the library encourage patrons to let the library staff know when they call upon arrival for their Pick-a-topic bag.

Patrons can request a bag through the Children’s and Teens’ Ser vices desk by calling 303-651-8477 or the Adult Ser vices desk by calling 303651-8472. Curbside pick-up will be available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesdays.
