Police investigate another phone threat
Boulder High School briefly went to secure status as police investigated another phone threat similar to the “swatting” call placed to the campus last week.
Boulder Valley School District spokesman Randy Barber said the campus, 1604 Arapahoe Ave., went on secure status at about 10 a.m. but lifted that at about 10:15 a.m.
Police also responded to Boulder Preparatory High School, 5075 Chaparral Court, and that school was also briefly placed on secure status. While on secure status, formerly known as lockout, classes continue but the doors to the school are locked.
“Once police were able to confirm that the call matched what had been received a week ago, the secure was lifted,” Boulder Valley officials wrote in a tweet.
Boulder police confirmed the call was similar to the one made on Feb. 22 that caused Boulder High to go on lockdown and then evacuate, but no further information was immediately available.
“We had a call that we quickly determined not to be legitimate,” Boulder police spokeswoman Dionne Waugh said.
Last week’s incident coincided with other similar calls to schools across Colorado, but police have not yet said if any other schools also received threats Wednesday.
Boulder Valley officials cautioned parents in a tweet that it was possible similar incidents could follow.
“Again, this is the second time that we’ve received this type of threat in the past week and given examples in other parts of the country, it is possible we may receive more in the future,” the tweet read. “We will be working with our law enforcement partners to continue to ensure that students and staff are safe, while doing everything possible to avoid causing unnecessary panic and concern.”
