Alex Medler will be a strong leader for BVSD

- — Lesley Smith, Boulder

As a former BVSD board member, I recently moderated a candidate forum for current BVSD school board candidates. Based on my experience and the candidates’ positions on key issues, I urge you to vote for Alex Medler for District C.

The forum gave me a chance to understand their positions on topics important to me and the audience. The format started with a few yes/no questions, followed by questions from the audience.

The replies to one question stood out. When asked, “Do you agree with BVSD’S masking and vaccination policies during COVID?” All candidates replied yes except for Cynthia Nevison, who replied no (Steffl wasn’t present due to illness). As a scientist and a CU Regent who helped guide our campuses through the pandemic, I found Nevison’s answer troubling. I assume the rest of the audience did too because they asked more questions about candidates’ views on vaccinations.

Alex Medler, who is running against Nevison, stated that he supported BVSD’S policies during COVID and believes vaccinations are our best way to ensure students don’t suffer from preventable diseases.

Alex is a strong proponent of science and has been steeped in education policy for his whole career. He has more than three decades of experience on a wide range of children’s policy issues, and he has worked tirelessly to improve public schools. Alex’s experience will be an outstanding addition to the board.

As a reminder, voters should vote for one candidate in each of the four open seats. Learn more about Alex and his strong list of endorsements at www.alexmedler.org.
