Yolo County Sheriff’s need public’s help in solving murder case

The Yolo County Sheriff’s Department is reaching out to the public for informatio­n about an April 24 homicide near Winters.

The drive-by shooting resulted in the death of 17-year-old Woodland resident David Sanchez, who was struck by gunfire and died two days later.

According to Lt. Matt Davis, the shooting took place on County Road 89 near Winters at an occupied vehicle. Two juvenile boys were uninjured during the shooting. Sanchez, was struck by gunfire and died two days later as a result.

“The motive for the shooting does not appear to be a random act or a road rage incident,” stated Davis. “Based on video footage, it is believed that the suspect(s) were lying in wait for the victim’s vehicle prior to the shooting. It is also believed that suspect(s) knew one or more of the victims.”

How investigat­ors obtained the video was not reported. But Davis did state the suspect vehicle “has distinctiv­e damage to the bottom of the rear passenger door” and also that the vehicle’s front bumper is a different color from the rest of the vehicle.

According to original reports from deputies, the shooting took place around 1:30 p.m. and the driver of the vehicle which had been shot at drove to Sutter Davis Hospital in Davis. The victim was later transporte­d to an unspecifie­d “Trauma Center.”

The only descriptio­n of the suspect vehicle offered at the time was that it was a small, dark-colored sedan, and last seen heading northbound on County Road 89.
