An early morning shooting in Woodland left one adult suffering minor injuries and a teen under arrest.

Police were continuing to investigate the 6:20 a.m. Tuesday shooting on Buckeye Street, but it appears a person in a tan-colored, four-door vehicle, fired at or into a home and injured an “adult male.”

A “juvenile” was taken into custody around 7 a.m. after residents on Buckeye reported the suspect vehicle had either returned to the area or was passing by the home, and shot at the house a second time around 6:50 a.m.

Police learned of the gunshot victim around 6:34 a.m. who was being treated at Woodland Memorial Hospital for non-lifethreatening injuries.

“Through investigation, it was determined that the victim was shot in the 100 block of Buckeye Street,” according to Sgt. Dallas Hyde.

Hyde also reported a possible suspect was located around 7:12 a.m. The suspect, a male ju

venile and Woodland resident, was subsequently arrested and booked into juvenile hall on charges of attempt homicide, firing into an inhabited dwelling and gang enhancements.

It was not reported whether a weapon was found in possession of the youth.

The youth was arrested at the intersection of West and Main streets after a person in the home reported that a tan-colored, four-door sedan was seen driving on the street. It matched a description of the vehicle from which gunshots had been fired.

Police quickly found the vehicle and effected a traffic stop, leading to the arrest.

Following the arrest, police sealed off the 100 block of Buckeye Street, between California and Cottonwood streets starting around 7:30 a.m., focusing their attention at a home on the north side of Buckeye. Crime scene technicians and at least six uniformed officers were present. Police started reopening the street around 8:30 a.m. and by 9 a.m. were clearing the area.

Whether the shooting was gang-related is still too early to know as police are continuing their investigation. A number of gang-related shootings have been reported over the past year in Woodland, a number on the northwest side of town.

If confirmed, this latest shooting will have been the second in almost as many days, although the two may not be related. On Sunday, as many as five rounds were fired around 5:53 a.m., in the area of Third and

North streets, near the Public Defender’s Office. There were also reports that people were “screaming” at each other.

Police located evidence that a shooting had occurred and also found a vehicle on North Street that had been struck by a bullet, but there were no reports of injuries.
