The LNU Complex Fire began on Aug. 17 and has continued to ravage five local counties, including Napa, Sonoma, Solano, Lake and Yolo with hundreds of thousands of acres burned, thousands of structures damaged and destroyed. Many residents of Yolo County, including members of The Yolo County Association of Realtors, were personally devastated by this fire.

As the trade association responsible for leading and representing the real estate community in Yolo County and in keeping with the associations continued efforts to “feed, clothe and house Yolo County,” the Association has felt compelled to act. So it was that on Wednesday, Sept. 23, Executive Director Nick Marin, provided the Rotary Club of Winters Fire Relief Fund a $5,000 donation on behalf of the organization and membership to help the victims of the LNU Complex Fire rebuild and restart their lives.

“Unfortunately our donation won’t be the golden ticket in helping everyone affected by the fire but every little bit helps,” stated Marin. “We encourage anyone interested to support and contribute to any of the causes providing aid and relief to wildfire victims. Losing a home and personal affections is traumatizing and distressing — this is when community support is most needed.”

And in other news from the Association, Marin reported that after originally canceling its annual golf tournament fundraiser (scheduled to occur in October) due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the group has changed course and put together a last-minute golf fundraiser after learning of loosened county restrictions on the outdoor sport.

With similar organizations like the Davis and Woodland chambers of commerce being able to move forward with planning and hosting comparable events, the Yolo Realtors affiliate committee (responsible for planning the organization’s events and fundraiser) came together to plan the fundraiser. This year’s beneficiary of the fundraised income is Meals on Wheels of Yolo County, a very deserving nonprofit hit hard financially by the pandemic, Meals on Wheels of Yolo County.

The event is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 22, at Wildhorse Golf Course in Davis. Yolo Realtors are still looking for hole sponsors ($25 each) and anyone interested in purchasing raffle tickets ($20) for the virtual raffle that will occur. Contact Marin or Estella Trejo at the Yolo County Association of Realtors office via email at nicholas@yolorealtors.com and estella@yolorealtors.com with questions.

This year’s event will run a little differently than previous years due to safety mandates that must be followed due to coronavirus pandemic with set tee times instead of the usual shotgun set-up and each golfer will be assigned their own golf cart to adhere to social distancing protocols. Participants will be required to fill out a medical questionnaire and be temperature checked before entering the golf facility, must wear masks in all public areas, and use enhanced sanitization and cleaning protocols. There will also be no post-tournament banquet.

And in a final bit of news from the Realtors, on Tuesday, Sept. 29, which was NAR’s Association Executive/Presidents Appreciation Day, the initiative, hard work and resiliency shown of local 2020 President, Cory Gold, and Marin were recognized.

“This year was not what anyone expected or hoped for but Cory and Nick have shown incredible leadership during a turbulent time, navigating complicated and, at times, confusing industry issues resulting from the pandemic,” according to a statement from the Association.

“By the same token, we need to acknowledge and celebrate our amazing Administrative Professional, Estella Trejo,” was honored for Administrative Professionals Day.

“Administrative Professional’s Day was on April 21, but unfortunately due to the craziness of the health crisis at hand we weren’t able to show her the appreciation that she deserves,” Marin stated. “Estella is like the human Siri — she’s able to help every member and real estate professional with any issue and does so with a smile on her face while asking nothing in return. Her hard work certainly does not go unnoticed and we can’t thank her enough for what she does.”

Woodland’s shopping app company Nytch Inc. expanded to Reno on Wednesday, stating via socila media that people could “shop goodwill on demand.”

Nytch allows small retailers to play up their service advantage, according to Grant Lea, co-founder and CEO of Nytch.

Nytch allows local consumers to post what they are looking for, and then the small shop can respond if it has it. The app allows stores to match shopper requests with what is available locally. Customers include Goodwill Sacramento Valley & Northern Nevada, as well as retail shops and even animal rescue agencies.

Nytch has an online payment channel powered by PayPal Holdings Inc.’s credit card payment program, but consumers don’t have to use that payment method. They can instead go to the store for pick up and pay on their own.

Nytch went live in April 2019 with 20 stores. It’s now up to 60 stores.
