Woodland bond measure benefits all

-

As a resident of this great city and a member of the citizen group, Woodland Residents for Measure R, I wish to encourage Woodland voters to vote Yes on Measure R. Voters overwhelmingly approved the ¼ cent sales tax as Measure J in 2014. Measure R simply extends the ¼ cent sales tax we already pay. Your voting support is needed so that the City can continue to provide needed services for our kids, our library and low income seniors.

There is no increase to the present 8% sales tax we pay in Woodland. Voting YES on Measure R will continue to provide around $2.8 million annually to fund critical programs such as camperships to children; supplement or waive player fees; provide swim lessons and lifeguard training; youth boxing; and support the Parks and Recreation van for outreach programs. It assists the Public Library by funding valuable services such as expanded literacy programs for both children and adults; increased library hours; Square One; book clubs; summer reading; and tutoring. It provides funds to public safety for youth intervention services, crime prevention; Neighborhood Watch and the V.I.P. volunteer program. And continues assistance for low income seniors with their utility services bills. Over 520 families were helped this year with a monthly reduction in their utility bill which is most helpful to seniors living on fixed incomes.

Along with Yes on Measure R I urge you vote yes on the companion advisory Measures S,T,U and V. The advisories provide direction to the City Council on how you would like to see these funds distributed. In the past the City has done a great job of following the advisory measures closely.
