CommuniCare to provide services to WCC
Woodland Community College students can take advantage of healthcare
A new partnership will provide Woodland Community College students with physical and behavioral healthcare.
CommuniCare Health Centers has been selected by the Yolo County Health and Human Services Agency and Yuba
Community College District to provide school- based health services to Woodland Community College students.
Yolo County Public Information Officer Jenny Tan stated that students will be provided with physical healthcare, behavioral healthcare and related social services in “a client- centered and culturally and linguistically competent manner.”
CommuniCare will provide telehealth services and virtual events in order to comply with local and state guidelines during the COVID- 19 pandemic.
CommuniCare Health Centers will also provide learning opportunities for students and staff of Woodland Community College to increase knowledge of healthy- living habits and the services available to them.
“Yolo County’s partnership with Woodland Community College on student health marks an important step forward in the continuing evolution of the college and in expanding vital services to students,” stated Chair of the Yolo County Board of Supervisors, Gary Sandy. “Most Woodland Community College students hold down jobs in addition to attending classes and too often lack access to health services.”
The initial term for the program is Sept. 1 through June
30, 2023 with a possible extension to June 30, 2025. The program will be paid for with funding from the Health and Human Services Agency, contributing upwards of $ 150,000 per year, and Yuba Community College District, contributing $ 60,000 per year.
“This collaborative really highlights what we can do when we work together and focus on our mutual goals of increasing access to critical services like healthcare to all our communities and within our institutions of higher education,” stated
Woodland Community College President Dr. Art Pimentel. “Our students will have access to important baseline health services and will better served by this partnership.”
CommuniCare Health Center will provide Woodland Community College students access to behavioral health services at a minimum of three work days per week, and physical healthcare services at a minimum of three- andahalf work days per week, according to the statement from Tan.
Extended evening hours will be made available for both services, the partnership may extend coverage to address emergency needs.
