New ag commissioner named for Yolo County
Supervisors appointed Humberto Izquierdo on Tuesday. He assumes full responsibilities effective Jan. 19.
Yolo County has a new agricultural commissioner.
Supervisors appointed Humberto Izquierdo to the position of ag commissioner/ sealer of weights and measures on Tuesday morning. He assumes full responsibilities effective Jan. 19.
The position was originally held for 11 years by John Young, who retired in September. Chief Deputy Agricultural Commissioner Dave Guerrero has served as the interim agricultural commissioner since Young’s retirement.
“I am excited to serve in the community where I live and look forward to working with the growers, farmworkers, and the citizenry at large of Yolo County,” Izguierdo stated. “I would like to thank the Board of Supervisors and County Administrator Blacklock for the opportunity to work in a county with such rich and diverse agricultural production.”
Yolo County spokeswoman Jenny Tan reported that Izquierdo County resident and has most recently served as the Agr ic u ltura l C o m m i s - sioner/ Sealer of Weights and Measures for the Napa County Agricultural Commissioner’s Office since 2018.

Agriculture for Napa and Alameda counties in various positions, including deputy agricultural commissioner, assistant agricultural commissioner, agricultural commissioner and sealer of weights & measures.
He also serves as chairman to the Coast Commissioner’s Group and is a member of the California Agricultural Commissioners & Sealers Association.
He graduated from UC Davis with a bachelor of science in biological sciences and received a master’s of science in management from Argosy University in Alameda.
The Agricultural Commissioner is responsible for the administration of the County Department of Agriculture which works with the public, business community and agricultural industries to promote agriculture, regulate pesticide safety and compliance, prevent the spread of agricultural pests and ensure equity in the marketplace through regular inspections and measuring of commodities.
