Although they’re not saying who, Woodland police detectives have identified a man suspected in a Dec. 16 burglary attempt.

Detectives in the department’s Investigations Bureau are now seeking a warrant to arrest the suspect from the District Attorney’s Office who allegedly entered a home in the 1800 block of Farnham Avenue through an unlocked door around 3: 40 a. m.

The homeowners confronted the person after they heard him rummaging around and the man fled. Neither resident was harmed.

According to police spokeswoman Sgt. Victoria Danzl, the case was strengthened with a video provided by a neighbor in the area, which caught an image of the suspect.

The original break- in was reported by residents who found the man wearing dark clothing and his face covered by a ski mask inside their home.

“The intruder was confronted by both the husband and wife, who were woken up by noises inside the home,” according to Danzl of the Dec. 16 breakin. “A verbal confrontation took place and the suspect fled. It is believed the suspect entered the home through an unlocked front door. A search of the residence and the area was conducted, but the suspect was not located.”

There was no statement from Danzl whether anything was taken.

However, immediately after the call on Farnham Avenue, another resident on nearby Elston Circle, saw a thin Latino man, with a thin mustache dressed in all dark clothing and wearing a black ski cap on his front porch “messing with his front door.”

Again an area search was conducted by police, but the suspect was not located. The Elston call was just down the street from the Farnham call it is believed that both incidents involved the same suspect, Danzl stated.

Danzl also used the burglary to reinforce the department’s regular reminder for homeowners and residents to check at 9 p. m. that their doors are locked for the night.
