Two years after she was killed in the line of duty, Davis Police Officer Natalie Corona continues to be remembered by residents and fellow law enforcement officers.

The Davis Police Department released a video in which they remembered Corona as “spunky, silly and with a big heart for her fellow humans.”

On Jan. 10, 2019, Corona was dispatched to a multi- vehicle crash near D and 5th streets in downtown Davis. While speaking to a motorist, police say a man — who was not involved in the accident — rode up on a bicycle and shot her multiple times, including once in the neck, and continued to fire at her even when after she hit the ground.

He reloaded his semiautomatic gun and fired off more rounds both randomly and at a firefighter before disappearing. No one but Corona was hurt. The 22- yearold was taken to the UC Davis Medical Center where she later died.

The shooter, 48- year- old Kevin Douglas Limbaugh, was later found dead of an apparent self- inflicted gunshot wound in his home. Davis police say Limbaugh used two handguns, a .45- caliber and a 9mm. The guns weren’t registered to him.

A Fallen Officer Memorial for Corona was revealed at the Davis Police Department one year after the shooting on Jan. 10, 2020.

“The memorial is open. If you would like to stop by and sit a minute or just look, please do. She would love that,” the Davis PD wrote on their Facebook page.

Corona’s death was memorialized throughout the county.

“Today, we remember City of Davis Police Department Officer Natalie Corona. Two years ago today, Natalie lost her life protecting the citizens of Davis,” stated the Woodland Police Department. “May we never forget the life, service and sacrifice made by Officer Corona.”

Corona’s father, Merced Corona was an employee of the Colusa County Sheriff’s Office for 26 years.

“Today and everyday we remember Officer Natalie Corona,” the Colusa County Police Department posted on their Facebook page. Corona was honored in a fivemile stretch of interstate 5 in Colusa.

“Today, we remember Officer Natalie Corona,” The Yolo County Sherriff’s Department stated. “Two years later and our hearts still ache for Natalie’s family, all of the City of Davis Police Department and the entire community.”

Corona graduated with an associates degree in administration of justice from Yuba College before joining the Sacramento Police Academy. During her time in the academy, she worked part- time as a community service officer at the Davis Police Department before being sworn in as a police officer in August 2018.
