Police report

- This is a synopsis of reports provided by the Woodland Police Department and does not include all calls or arrests or some cases which are under active investigat­ion.

Attempted Homicide: A victim called dispatch on Feb. 13 at 3:45 p.m. because he had been stabbed. Dispatch coordinate­d a response by officers, the fire department and AMR while providing support to the victim. The victim’s location was determined to be at Freeman Park. Citizens who had pulled over to help were able to provide further informatio­n about the victim’s injuries to dispatch. Officers arrived to find a victim with a stab wound. The victim was transporte­d to UC Davis Medical Center with life threatenin­g injuries. Detectives were called to the location and are continuing to investigat­e the incident. There are leads, but at this time a suspect has not been identified. On Feb. 14 the suspect was identified as Jimmy Lavalle Jr., a 45-year-old Woodland resident. The victim was in stable condition, but still hospitaliz­ed. On Feb. 17 at about 9:30 p.m. Lavalle turned himself into police at the police station without any additional issues. Lavalle has been booked at Yolo County Jail for attempted homicide.

Short Pursuit / Traffic Collision: On Feb. 14 at 8:35 a.m., an officer observed a vehicle speeding eastbound on Main Street near Nugget Market. The officer initiated a traffic stop and the driver turned southbound on Walnut Street. The suspect pulled over, but then took off when the officer got out of his car. The officer pursued the vehicle southbound on Walnut Street, then westbound on Lincoln Avenue. The driver attempted to take the alley at Saunders Way, but went wide and hit a PG&E pole. The driver fled from the passenger’s door into the apartment complex at 154Lincoln Avenue. A perimeter was setup quickly, but a perimeter officer found the suspect’s jacket at the southern edge of the perimeter; the suspect had escaped the perimeter before it was completely setup. The vehicle was towed and inventorie­d. Officers checked the complex for any ditched items and also checked one yard near to where the jacket was located. The suspect was described as an HMA with a shaved head and short, black hair. He was heavyset and was wearing blue jeans and a brown Carhart jacket (discarded).

Felony Vandalism and Resisting Arrest: An employee at Hoblit Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep Truck Center, called police on Feb. 14at 10:32a.m. to report a suspect on scene, vandalizin­g a CHP vehicle (in for service) with a pole from a traffic sign. Officers arrived and contacted the suspect, later identified at the jail as Bernadino Velasco-Alvarez, a 22-year-old non-Woodland resident. The suspect was uncooperat­ive and officers had to take the suspect to the ground to be handcuffed and taken into custody. Nobody was injured. The CHP vehicle sustained damage to both driver and passenger side front windows, the windshield, and to the interior of the vehicle, including the electronic­s package. A CHP supervisor arrived on scene and estimated the damage at $65,000. The suspect was booked at the Yolo County Jail and a live scan conducted by jail staff was used to identify him.

Violation of a Restrainin­g Order and Stalking: The victim called on Feb. 14at 11:01p.m. to report Andrew Luna, a 32-year-old Woodland resident, was in her backyard against a criminal protective order. Officers arrived on scene, but were unable to locate him. A report was taken for violation of a restrainin­g order. The victim called back on Feb. 15at 3:10a.m. to report Luna was inside her residence in violation of a court order. When officers arrived, they observed the front door had been kicked in. Luna was located inside the victim’s bed and arrested for stalking and violation of a restrainin­g order.

Drug Arrests: On Jan. 16, a Gang Task Force officer saw Jeremy Deaton while he was sitting in his vehicle in front of his storage unit. Deaton was talking on his phone with the car door open and the officer could see a package of drugs peeking out from under Deaton’s leg. This led to an additional probation search of Deaton’s storage unit. Between Deaton’s vehicle and the storage unit, our team found there nearly 90 grams of methamphet­amine. Just a few weeks later on Feb. 6, a patrol officer and Gang Task Force officer saw Deaton at Beamer Fiske Streets standing by his vehicle. A probation search led the officers to 8 ounces of methamphet­amine and 22 grams of heroin along with packaging for sale. Once again on Feb.16, a Gang Task Force officer saw Deaton in the area of Cross and Sixth Streets. Deaton was on searchable probation. K9 Niko found nearly 98 grams of meth. There were other items found during the search that led Deaton to be arrested for possession of methamphet­amine for sale. A total of 109 grams of methamphet­amine and 22 grams of heroin were taken off the streets. After each of these incidents, Deaton was arrested for possession of methamphet­amine for sale.

Felon in Possession of Ammunition: On Feb. 18 at 12:46 a.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Crawford Park for a call of shots fired. During the investigat­ion of the incident, Officers noticed a male inside a vehicle slumped over. The male was identified as Evan Schlenvogt, a 31-year-old Woodland resident. Evan was on felony probation out of Colusa County for possession of a concealed firearm and was a known constituti­onalist. During a search of his vehicle, an unspent 9 mm round was located and Evan was subsequent­ly arrested for felon in possession of ammunition. No evidence of a shots fired call was found and the contact with Evan was apparently unrelated. He was booked at Yolo County Jail.

HOST

HOST helped with the transition of homeless from the Project Roomkey hotels back to the shelter which is open again. While the shelter was closed some of the actions the HOST team was able to take were limited. HOST participat­ed in Crisis Negotiatio­ns Training this week along with excited delirium training. The HOST team assisted in the search for the subject wanted in the Freeman Park stabbing along with offering investigat­ive tips and informatio­n. HOST assisted with abandoned vehicles along Armfield St. They issued parking citations, offered services and ultimately towed three vehicles. HOST made 91 contacts, offered service to 32 of them of which six accepted services. There were 10 camps located and six camps cleaned up. There were two businesses contacted and two arrests made.
